KATHMANDU: Former chief whip of the dissolved House of Representatives, Santosh Pariyar, is set to join the Janardan Sharma-led Pragatisheel Rastriya Abhiyan after resigning from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).
Pariyar, who was also a member of the RSP Secretariat, left the party citing escalating internal disputes. RSP spokesperson Manish Jha confirmed his resignation, saying Pariyar has informed leaders that he plans to move ahead with a new political initiative.
The campaign Pariyar plans to join was formed on Thursday under the leadership of former minister Sudan Kirati. The group belongs to leaders close to former Maoist vice-chair Janardan Sharma, who did not join the newly announced Nepali Communist Party formed on November 5.
Pariyar’s departure comes amid growing discontent within RSP. Former minister Sumana Shrestha has already quit the party, while leaders Toshima Karki and Ganesh Karki have also expressed strong dissatisfaction with the party leadership in recent weeks.
