National Building Code comes into effect

KATHMANDU: The National Building Code has formally come into operation following its publication in the Nepal Gazette on Thursday.

According to the Ministry of Urban Development, the updated code will not only guide urban construction but will also serve as a technical standard for underground structures, including dams, powerhouses, and tunnels, particularly in hydropower projects.

The Ministry has called on local governments, engineers, builders, and the public to strictly follow the new code, emphasizing that proper implementation is essential for ensuring safety and structural resilience.
