JSP and Rashtriya Mukti Party announce working unity, eye full merger

KATHMANDU: The Ashok Rai-led Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP), formed after splitting from Upendra Yadav’s JSP-Nepal, has entered into working unity with Rajendra Mahato’s Rashtriya Mukti Party.

The announcement was made Thursday at a party palace in New Baneshwor, attended by top leaders and central committee members from both sides. The agreement is seen as a step toward a full party merger, with plans to integrate their provincial, district, and local committees.

Under the working unity, the two parties will run joint programs nationwide, including demonstrations, mass assemblies, seminars, and discussions to build public support for unification. They have agreed to launch a joint movement for amending what they describe as an “incomplete and discriminatory” constitution, pressing their demands through the government, parliament, and street protests.

Their shared agenda includes the direct election of provincial chief ministers and local executives, holding non-partisan local elections, forming an inclusive Council of Ministers appointed by the President with members drawn from experts, political figures, or specialists, and ensuring full proportional representation based on population to achieve inclusive democracy.
