NC lawmaker demands answers from RSP

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress lawmaker Ishwari Neupane on Monday demanded formal clarification from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) regarding its chair and leadership conduct, raising a series of critical questions in the House of Representatives.

During the parliamentary session, Neupane addressed Speaker Devraj Ghimire and requested that the RSP respond publicly to her concerns.

She questioned whether the RSP chair Rabi Lamichhane had traveled to the United States on a visit visa and whether he had used questionable methods to obtain foreign citizenship.

She further asked why, after renouncing Nepali citizenship, the individual had not sought to regain it upon returning to Nepal.

Neupane also raised the issue of the alleged use of fraudulent citizenship documents to mislead the state. She questioned the ethical grounds on which someone could assume government posts, become a shareholder, contest elections, and join the cabinet while holding invalid citizenship.

Referring to recent protests and campaigns, she asked whether organizing rallies, slogans, and signature drives related to an ongoing court case was appropriate, warning that such activities could influence judicial proceedings.

Finally, she questioned whether an individual who is in judicial custody and suspended from official duties should continue to serve as party chair and parliamentary leader.
