UML–Congress collaboration essential for political stability: Pradeep Gyawali

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali has said that cooperation between UML and the Nepali Congress is essential for Nepal’s political stability and development.

Speaking at the inauguration of the third national conference of Progressive and Professional Lawyers’ Association Nepal on Saturday, Gyawali said that although UML and Congress are the main competing parties, a bipartisan partnership is necessary in the country’s broader interest.

“We are key rivals, but we are also stakeholders in democracy,” he said. “We must engage in both competition and cooperation. Collaboration between us is necessary.”

Gyawali also claimed that hopes in the private sector have risen since the formation of the government under UML chair KP Sharma Oli, with stalled development projects gaining momentum. He stressed the need to amend the Constitution to make it more adaptable with time and called for unity among all leftist parties.

Meanwhile, UML Chief Election Commissioner Bijay Subba emphasized the importance of fair competition through democratic processes. UML Standing Committee member Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal urged party members to work toward restoring public trust in the judiciary.

Organization chair Bhoj Raj Acharya said the association has been providing legal support to the party. The conference is expected to elect a new executive committee.
