Two-point agreement with ruling alliance will be reviewed: Narayan Kaji Shrestha

KATHMANDU: Narayan Kaji Shrestha, senior vice-chair of the CPN (Maoist Centre), has said that the party will review the recent two-point agreement made with the ruling coalition that led to the resumption of Parliament.

Speaking at the sixth convention of the party’s Dolakha–Kathmandu Contact Coordination Committee held in Kathmandu on Saturday, Shrestha said that discussions about the agreement have yet to take place within the party.

“An agreement with the ruling parties helped reopen Parliament. But various developments have followed since then. I have not had the chance to discuss them with our chairperson,” he said. “So until we reach a conclusion through discussion, I cannot say anything definitively. The agreement will be reviewed based on whether it served the interests of our party and the campaign for good governance.”

Shrestha suggested that party chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ may have signed the deal after assessing the overall political situation. “The chair might have reached that conclusion based on the full context,” he said. “But I am not in a position to comment without official party-level discussions.”

He also stressed that, despite the agreement with the ruling alliance, the Maoist Centre will not back down from pursuing the visit visa scandal.

“One thing is clear, we are not dropping this issue. This is not a minor matter,” Shrestha said. “The nature of the case and the processes emerging from it demand action. We are continuing our campaign against corruption and will not let this matter go.”

On Friday, to facilitate the resumption of parliamentary proceedings, Maoist Chief Whip Hit Raj Pandey and UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula signed a two-point agreement.
