Prachanda calls former King a ‘dynasty killer’ and ‘idol thief,’ warns against political interference

KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Center) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has strongly criticized former King Gyanendra Shah, labeling him a ‘dynasty killer’ and an ‘idol thief’.

Addressing the third municipal convention of the Maoist Center in Melamchi on Friday, Prachanda issued a stern warning to the former monarch, urging him not to engage in political maneuvers.

“Foolishness has been committed before, and if it happens again, the Nepalese people and political parties will not remain silent,” he said. “Everyone knows who was behind the brutal palace massacre. The people of Nepal are well aware of the mastermind.”

While acknowledging that monarchist activities have been increasing, he dismissed concerns that they pose an immediate threat. However, he admitted that acts of defiance have been occurring.

Prachanda warned that if such activities escalate, the Maoist party is prepared to respond forcefully. He advised Gyanendra Shah not to be under the illusion that the people have forgotten his past deeds.

“This drama about kings and emperors: where did 250 years of monarchy lead this country? The people remember who looted Nepal’s cultural heritage. The biggest idol thieves are now trying to reclaim the throne. Who wiped out their own dynasty? Who was involved in gold smuggling? Do they think Nepalis have forgotten?” he questioned.

Prachanda also recalled that during his first tenure as Prime Minister, he had called for an investigation into the palace massacre.

However, he claimed that since he was unable to remain in office for five years, the inquiry remained incomplete.

“Had I been in power for five years, I would have ensured another investigation into the massacre and held the real culprits accountable in the court of history,” he asserted.
