Shankardev Campus padlocked amid FSU fund misuse allegations

KATHMANDU: Shankardev Campus has been padlocked following allegations that the Free Students’ Union (FSU) President misused FSU funds to admit students ahead of the upcoming FSU elections, scheduled for March 18.

The All Nepal National Free Students’ Union (ANNFSU), affiliated with the UML, locked down the campus after FSU President Sushant Basnet allegedly enrolled more than 400 students using FSU funds.

The students were admitted under the pretense of being from poor, backward and disabled backgrounds.

Speaking on behalf of ANNFSU, a leader from Shankardev Campus stated, “We have demanded an investigation after the FSU President himself engaged in wrongdoing like fake admissions. The admission of fake students should be canceled; otherwise, there will be no environment for the election.”

However, FSU President Sushant Basnet has refuted the allegations, claiming that the issue is not related to his own actions but rather to false admissions made by other organizations, including ANNFSU.

“The issue raised by other organizations is not about my admissions. I have received information that ANNFSU has admitted fake students. I have already informed the campus principal and the election officer that an investigation should be conducted,” Basnet said.

In light of the controversy and growing tension on campus, Election Officer Dhurba Subedi has issued a notice postponing the FSU election until further notice, citing unusual circumstances as the reason.
