Speaker, NA Vice Chair extend best wishes on Maghe Sankranti

KATHMANDU: Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), Devraj Ghimire, has said traditional festivals like Maghi/Maghe Sankranti are means of deepening mutual harmony.

In his best wishes to all Nepali citizens at home and abroad on the occasion of the festival today, the Speaker has expressed his hope that this kind of festivals will inspire the new generation to internalize glorious history and culture of the Nepali society.

“Nepal is rich in cultural diversities and festivals that are observed here don’t merely reflect religious or astrological values, but represent our social, cultural and environmental aspects.”

“Nepal’s unique festivals reflect our civilisaion, responsibility towards the society and adjustment with the cycle of nature,” he said.

Likewise, National Assembly (NA) Vice Chair Bimala Ghimire has wished that the festival may inspire one and all to get united for the nation’s development.

“Nepal is a beautiful nation featuring ethnic, linguistic, religious, cultural and geographical diversities,” the NA Vice Chair said, reminding us of constitutional provisions for development and elevation of all castes, religions and communities by adopting the inclusive democracy.

Similarly, Deputy Speaker Indira Rana has said the festival has played a crucial role in deepening social, cultural and emotional bonding and unity among all castes and communities. Wishing for peace, prosperity and happiness among all the Nepali citizens on the occasion of the festival, she said, “Our cultural festivals establish the distinct identities of the respective communities.”

The festival is observed on the first day of the month of Magh with different names such as Maghi or Makar Sankranti or Maghe Sankranti and so on.
