KMC demolishes illegal structure built by NC leader Deepak Khadka’s company on Nepal Scouts land

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has demolished a structure built by a company owned by former minister and Nepali Congress leader Deepak Khadka on land belonging to Nepal Scouts in Lainchaur.

The action followed Nepal Scouts’ public notice on October 6, warning Khadka Land Development Company to clear its dues within seven days. The company’s continued failure to pay prompted the metropolis to move in with bulldozers on Wednesday.

The land in question, about three ropanis, falls under the ownership of Nepal Scouts, an organization under the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Khadka’s company reportedly owes over Rs 35 million in unpaid dues for using the land.

The company had signed a 10-year lease agreement with Nepal Scouts in 2008, which expired in 2018. Following a legal dispute, the Patan High Court ruled in favor of Nepal Scouts on June 27, 2021, rejecting the company’s claim to the property.

After the court verdict, Nepal Scouts had sealed the structure and issued another public notice on November 15, 2015. The organization said in its recent statement that the company’s prolonged non-payment had caused irreparable loss to the institution.
