Kaligandaki Corridor and Ridi-Bamitaksar road obstructed

GULMI: The Kaligandaki Corridor has been blocked by landslides triggered by incessant rainfall. According to the District Police Office, the road was completely obstructed today after rocks and debris fell at Rakse in Kaligandaki Rural Municipality-2 along the Gulmi section of the corridor.

Vehicles on both sides are currently stranded. Although the road construction company has excavators ready to clear the blockage, operations are hampered by ongoing rain and recurring landslides, said Ganga Bahadur Saru, Information Officer of the District Police Office.

Similarly, the Ridi-Bamitaksar section of the district’s main road has also been blocked. The road was obstructed today after increased water flow in the Dahare River in Satyawati Rural Municipality-6 flooded the area, Saru added.

Police reported that vehicles travelling from the area toward Butwal via Ridi, and toward Burtibang in Baglung via Ridi, have been stopped midway due to flooding.

Last week, the river had swept away a car. Police teams have been deployed from Johang Khaireni and Purtighat to clear the blocked roads.

The District Administration Office has urged residents in riverbank areas to remain vigilant and move to safe locations during the rainy season. Water levels in the Badigad and Kaligandaki rivers have also begun to rise due to the ongoing rainfall.
