Dr. Bhattarai lashes out at major parties, takes a swipe at Prachanda

KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and Chairman of Nepal Samajwadi Party (Naya Shakti), Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the country’s three major political parties.

On Sunday morning, he posted a photo of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba on social media alongside Prime Minister and UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda.

Reacting to the photo, Bhattarai remarked that these leaders have failed to address the country’s deep-rooted structural problems.

Bhattarai directed sharper criticism toward his former comrade, Prachanda, singling him out in a strongly worded statement.

“The biggest achievement of the government led by the two major parties in the past year has been the practical demonstration that serious structural issues—such as institutional corruption, unemployment, underdevelopment, dependency, and environmental degradation—cannot be solved by the old parties, no matter how many times they take turns in power,” he wrote.

“It’s already evident that even when the supreme leader of the third major party heads the government with full authority, he has failed to make a dent in addressing these core issues,” Bhattarai added.

“In this situation, the verdict of Nepali history will inevitably fall into the hands of new and alternative forces sooner or later. The real question is: how will they prepare for this responsibility? The political discourse in the coming days must take place with this in mind. Shouldn’t everyone place a hand on their chest and ask themselves honestly—‘Me?’”
