NA session:  Lawmakers stress on allocating budget based on principles, priorities

KATHMANDU:  Discussion was held on principles and priorities of Appropriation Bill (except tax) of coming fiscal year in today’s meeting of the National Assembly.

Taking part in the discussion, Tulasa Kumari Dahal suggested the government to allocate budget on the basis of principles and priorities of the Appropriation Bill.

“The budget should be made being focused on policies and programmes as well as principles and priorities and it should be implemented effectively”, she opined.

Economic sources should be searched for self-reliant and socialism-oriented economy as well as social transformation in order to fulfill national aspiration ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali’.

Similarly, Jag Prasad Sharma commented that though the Appropriation Bill has principles of continuity in policy, dynamism in economy and acceleration in development, there are procedural errors.

Likewise, Krishna Bahadur Rokaya stressed the need of allocating budget keeping Karnali province at special priority.

Laying emphasis on the need of making budget that should raise 20 per cent population, which is below the poverty line, above it, Beduram Bhusal mentioned that the bill has not incorporated concrete programmes for achieving sustainable development goals.

Govt employees’ facilities should be increased in timely manner
The lawmakers speaking during discussions on the Principles and Priorities of the Appropriation Bill for Fiscal Year 2025-26 in the National Assembly meeting today called for taking urgent steps for curbing the burgeoning corruption in the country and suggested the government to increase the facilities of the public employees as one major intervention to that connection.

They also stressed on aligning the budget and the limited resources and on making budgetary allocation and prioritization in a just manner, expressing hope for improvement in the upcoming budget.

The lawmakers called for focussing on implementing policies brought in the agriculture sector, tourism development, economic development and education.

Those speaking in this line were Mohammad Khalid, Shekhar Kumar Singh, Rukmini Koirala, Jhakku Prasad Subedi and Kamala Panta, among other lawmakers.
