PM Oli: I had warned Dhurmus-Suntali not to take on the stadium project, saying it would only bring hardship

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has announced that the government will take over and complete the construction of the Gautam Buddha Cricket Stadium in Chitwan.

Speaking at an event held virtually from Baluwatar to inaugurate a new film studio in Bhainsepati, Banepa Municipality–10, PM Oli recalled the time when comedians-turned-social workers Dhurmus and Suntali approached him with the proposal to build the stadium through public donations.

“They came to me saying they would build the stadium in Chitwan,” Oli said. “But I told them not to get involved in it. I warned them it would be difficult.”

Despite his warning, the duo had insisted on continuing the project through fundraising. “They still went ahead, and now they’re facing a lot of trouble,” Oli added. “But the Gautam Buddha Cricket Stadium will be built. The government will complete it.”
