PM Oli extends heartfelt wishes on Phagu Poornima
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has extended warm greetings and best wishes to all Nepalis on the occasion of Phagu Poornima, also known as Holi.
The Prime Minister took to his social media account to convey his message to Nepalis living at home and abroad, expressing his hope for joy and enthusiasm during the festival.
Describing Phagu Poornima as a festival that symbolizes the renaissance of nature, Prime Minister Oli referred to the occasion as both Basantaotsav and Madanotsav. He highlighted that the festival, celebrated during the full moon of the spring season, is a time to spread happiness and unity among people.

The Holi celebration is in full swing across various parts of Kathmandu Valley, including the Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square and Basantapur area, which have become prime gathering spots for revelers.
On the occasion of Phagu Purnima, thousands of people have gathered in Basantapur’s open square to celebrate the festival with enthusiasm.
The Hanuman Dhoka area is currently witnessing grand festivities as people come together to mark the occasion with joy and harmony.
Janamat and Nagarik Unmukti in merger talks, stalled by internal differences
Discussions on a possible merger between the Madhesh-centric Nagarik Unmukti Party and Janamat Party are underway.
However, internal disagreements within Nagarik Unmukti Party, particularly between party patron Resham Chaudhary and party chair Ranjita Shrestha, have delayed the process.
While the Janamat Party, led by Dr. CK Raut, has already formed a three-member task force to facilitate the merger, Naupa has yet to make a formal decision.
55 held on charge of unruly activities during Holi celebration
Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba is set to hold talks with Minister of External Affairs of India S. Jaishankar during the Raisina Dialogue, which begins on March 17 in New Delhi.
According to her secretariat, the meeting will take place on the sidelines of the event, where Minister Rana will also engage in bilateral discussions with counterparts from other friendly nations.
Rana arrived in New Delhi after visiting Baba Baidyanath Dham in Jharkhand for religious rituals.
Kamal Adhikari, a 23-year-old Nepali student who had been missing from London for a month and a half, has been found safe.
The Nepali Embassy in London confirmed that Adhikari, who had been missing since February 2, was located at a homeless shelter in East London.
Bipin Duwadi, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Nepali Embassy, said that the embassy immediately informed Adhikari’s family in Nepal and has started preparations to send him back at their request.
Nepali Congress and UML agree on immediate political appointments in Sudurpaschim Province
The ruling coalition’s Nepali Congress and UML have reached an agreement to make immediate political appointments to posts whose terms are about to expire in the Sudurpaschim Province.
In a meeting held at the official residence of Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah, the provincial-level political machinery of the ruling coalition decided to fill the vacant posts on the basis of share-sharing between the coalition partners.
The blueprint for the appointments will be prepared by Chief Minister Shah and UML parliamentary party leader Rajendra Singh Rawal, who is also a former chief minister.
17 candidates file for chair in TU Free Students Union election
A total of 17 candidates have filed their candidacies for the post of chair in the upcoming Free Students Union (FSU) election at Tribhuvan University (TU) Central Campus in Kirtipur.
The final list, made public by the campus, includes candidates from various student groups including ANNFSU, Nepal Students Union, ANNFSU Revolutionary, Independent Students Group, and a number of independent candidates.
Prof. Dr. Krishna Prasad Neupane, Campus Election Officer, confirmed that notable names like Siddhant Bhatta (ANNFSU), Deepak Raj Joshi (Nepal Students Union), Prabin Dahal (ANNFSU Revolutionary), and Dinesh Karki (Independent Students Group) are among the contenders. Other candidates include Bilam Suwal, Akkal Ranabhat, and Narendra Singh Mahara from various unions.
NGO Federation of Nepal elects new leadership
The NGO Federation of Nepal has elected a new leadership centered on social and economic justice during the National Civil Society Conference-2025, which concluded on Wednesday.
The two-day event, held in Kathmandu, also marked the 11th General Convention and 30th AGM of the Federation.
Arjun Kumar Bhattarai has been elected as the President of the 51-member executive committee. Other prominent office bearers include Nani Maya Thapa as Senior Vice President, Rajendra Sharma and Sanjay Lamsal as Vice Chairs, and Devi Khadka as General Secretary.
Adverse weather causes missed approach for Air Arabia aircraft at TIA
An Air Arabia plane made a missed approach overshoot while attempting to land at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) at 1:05 pm today.
The aircraft, which was approaching for its final descent, suddenly veered off above runway due to wind shear—an abrupt change in wind speed and direction.
According to TIA spokesperson Rinji Sherpa, wind shear occurs when winds from different directions mix, creating a whirlwind effect that destabilizes aircraft during landing.
Maoist Center to resume Terai-Madhes Campaign after FSU elections
The CPN (Maoist Center) is set to resume its ‘Terai-Madhes Awakening Campaign’ following the completion of the Free Student Union (FSU) elections.
The campaign had been temporarily halted as party leaders returned to Kathmandu after receiving reports of a royalist street protest planned for March 9.
The campaign was put on hold after concluding a program in Rautahat, but according to party General Secretary Dev Gurung, it will now continue from where it left off.
Pathibhara Cable Car dispute: Two released, arrest warrants canceled for six
Two identity-based leaders arrested in connection with the Mukkumlung protection movement have been released, while the arrest warrants for six others have been canceled.
The Sunsari District Police Office had detained three individuals, but two of them, Bishnu Thamden and Suman Chemjong, were released.
Khagendra Makhim, a leader involved in the movement, confirmed their release and stated that the Sunsari District Administration Office had also revoked arrest warrants for six others.
