Dev Gurung: Running the government through ordinances behind closed doors is undemocratic

KATHMANDU: CPN-Maoist Center General Secretary Dev Prasad Gurung has criticized the government’s move to introduce ordinances, calling it undemocratic.

Gurung highlighted the need to refrain from bypassing parliament and running the government through ordinances.

He accused the Oli-led Congress-UML government of pursuing an undemocratic path by amending certain Nepal Acts through ordinances instead of parliamentary procedures.

He also expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in convening the winter session of parliament, even though it is already time for it.

Gurung pointed out that dozens of bills have been stalled in parliament for the past four months.

“The winter session of parliament should be convened immediately,” said Gurung. “All laws and amendments should proceed through the democratic process of the parliament. The undemocratic act of running the government through ordinances behind closed doors must end.”
