KATHMANDU: The UML has announced a three-month grassroots campaign to mobilize leaders and cadres, reaching out to villages and homes to build a decisive national force for the party.
The campaign, set to run from January to April, aims to expand the party’s reach and prepare for future electoral victories, including securing a majority government in 2027.
The UML Koshi Province initiated the campaign with a provincial-level orientation program on Sunday, following its announcement during a meeting on Saturday.
A total of 445 participants attended the orientation, including 257 members from the Koshi Province Committee, 56 central leaders from the province, district office bearers from 14 districts, and leaders of mass organizations.
Kashinath Adhikari, head of the UML’s Organization Department, outlined the campaign’s goals stating the party was doing the campaign for strengthening party membership, completing pending local conventions, addressing public concerns, and connecting mass organizations with grassroots issues such as those faced by farmers, workers, students, women, and marginalized communities.
“This campaign is a step toward building a prosperous Nepal over the next 25 years. We aim to create a solid foundation for a majority UML government at all levels of governance in upcoming elections,” said Adhikari.
The initiative also includes leadership training, combating cyber attacks against the party, and fostering youth leadership development.
Standing committee member and mass organization mechanism chief Bhanubhakta Dhakal stressed the importance of meaningful organizational work, urging members to move beyond superficial displays such as social media posts of leadership activities.
“We need a pyramid-shaped structure based on organizational principles to ensure the party’s strength,” he said.
The campaign has garnered strong support from the UML leadership, with addresses from standing committee members Sherdhan Rai and Rajendra Gautam, Koshi Province Chief Minister Hikmat Karki, and Koshi Province President Ghanshyam Khatiwada. Vice-chairman of the central committee, Guru Baral, attended the program as the chief guest.
