SC seeks written response on validity of Chief Minister Yadav’s appointment

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has issued a show cause order, seeking a written response regarding the legality of Madhesh Province Chief Minister Saroj Yadav’s appointment.

A single bench of Justice Nityananda Pandey on Wednesday directed Chief Minister Yadav to submit his written response through the Office of the Attorney General within 15 days.

The order was issued during the preliminary hearing of a writ petition filed by Krishna Prasad Yadav and 74 other provincial assembly members challenging Yadav’s appointment. The court has also summoned both parties for a hearing on November 16.

The order states, “Considering the nature and seriousness of the issue, it would be appropriate to reach a conclusion after holding a discussion between both parties. Therefore, the hearing for an interim order is scheduled for 2082-7-30, and the defendants should be informed accordingly.”

The court has also asked for all documents related to the Chief Minister’s appointment made on November 9, including files concerning the formation of the provincial cabinet.
