Seven-party alliance continues protests in Janakpurdham against Madhesh Province government

JANAKPURDHAM: Seven political parties continued their protests on Wednesday against the formation of the Madhesh Province government, alleging that it was formed unconstitutionally. Demonstrators gathered in front of the Madhesh Bhawan demanding the dismissal of Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav.

Raising slogans against Yadav’s appointment, the protesters, led by the seven-party alliance, insisted that the Chief Minister’s appointment was illegal and must be revoked. Ram Ashish Yadav, Chief Coordinator of Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) in Madhesh Province, said their protest was directed against the unconstitutional actions of the Province Head.

He further stated that since the federal government has already removed the Province Head from office, the Chief Minister should also be dismissed. The alliance expressed confidence that the Supreme Court will make a decision in accordance with the Constitution, as the matter is currently under judicial review.

Earlier on Monday, while Chief Minister Yadav was assuming office, leaders, activists, and lawmakers from the seven-party alliance had staged protests in front of Madhesh Bhawan. Police intervention during the protest led to injuries among some leaders.

Following the incident, the alliance issued a joint statement, pledging to continue their protest through peaceful means. The seven-party coalition includes Nepali Congress, JSP-N, Janmat Party, CPN-Maoist Centre, LSP-N, CPN-S, and the Nagarik Unmukti Party.
