Gagan’s message: Let’s bid farewell to Deuba, Oli, and Dahal

KATHMANDU:  Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has called for the departure of the three major party leaders, Sher Bahadur Deuba, KP Sharma Oli, and Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, urging a new environment for dialogue.

In a video message released on Sunday, Thapa emphasized that it is time to bid farewell to the top leaders. He criticized the “musical chair of power” among the three leaders over the past decade and stressed the need for a change in leadership.

Thapa also remarked that Nepal after September 10  is no longer the same as it was before September 8, highlighting the country’s shifting political landscape. He defended Deuba against party members’ criticisms regarding his perceived insensitivity and noted that both he and fellow General Secretary Bishwoprakash Sharma had condemned attacks on Deuba in the name of Gen-Z on September 9.

Thapa reiterated that any physical assault is unacceptable. “We ourselves have narrowly escaped beatings and assaults. We must respect our leaders. I appeal to Congress, UML, and Maoist party members: we must clearly tell our three leaders—No More. You must step aside. The party can function without you. We can manage. Leadership must change. Culture must change,” he said.

He repeated that he is also ready to relinquish party leadership if necessary, underscoring his earlier statement of willingness to resign from his position as General Secretary.
