Homestay program begins in Myagdi’s Toripani as part of rural tourism drive

MYAGDI – Homestays have been launched in Toripani, Beni Municipality-9, with the aim of boosting tourism, generating local income, and creating employment opportunities.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to promote this scenic hill region, which lies in the shadow of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna mountain ranges.

In the first phase, five houses have been converted into homestays with a combined capacity to accommodate 21 guests. According to Sita Khatri, chairperson of the homestay group, infrastructure such as guest rooms and toilets has been prepared.

“Eco Himalaya has provided support worth around Rs. 600,000, including beds, tents, and cleaning supplies,” Khatri said.

The newly operational homestays are operated by Juna Khatri, Rashmi Chokhyal, Sujana Chokhyal, Yuva Giri, and Jamuna Shrestha. The group has registered as an official organization, and preparations are underway to expand the program in a second phase.

Located at an altitude of 1,750 meters above sea level, Toripani offers stunning views of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges. The area is also known for Timurkheti, a spiced local fruit, and lies near several attractions including the scenic viewpoint at Todke, the historic Dholthan Durbar, and various religious sites.

Infrastructure improvements are ongoing. The road from Beni to Toripani via Neptechaur is being upgraded with blacktop paving by the Gandaki Province government. In addition, both the federal government and Beni Municipality have plans to upgrade the road linking Toripani to Dholthan — a former palace site from the Baise-Chaubise kingdom era.

Toripani is being promoted as a peaceful destination ideal for travelers seeking a family-friendly rural experience near Beni. The village can be reached by hiking or by road, with routes also connecting to Todke, located at the junction of Beni Municipality, Raghuganga, and Mangala Rural Municipality.

Ward Chairperson Chakra KC expressed optimism about the homestay initiative. “We expect the homestays will help promote tourism, create employment, and increase the income of local residents,” he said.
