KATHMANDU: Chief District Officer (CDO) Gopal Prasad Adhikari has announced that a curfew will remain in place across the district from 10 am to 5 pm today, urging residents not to leave their homes without authorization.
The order specifies that individuals who must go outside for urgent matters may only do so with prior approval from security forces.
Authorities said the curfew was necessary after the Gen Z-led protests triggered incidents of looting, arson, and violence by disruptive groups targeting both public and private property.
During curfew hours, the Nepali Army, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Police have been patrolling areas including Birtamod, Damak, Bhadrapur, and Mechinagar. Vehicles found violating the order are being turned back immediately.
Adhikari stated that the curfew will be relaxed from 5 pm to 7 pm to allow the public to purchase essential goods. However, restrictions will resume from 7 p.m. tonight and continue until 6 am on Saturday.
