KATHMANDU: The Nepali Army on Friday issued a public notice urging citizens not to believe or spread false and misleading news reports linked to the military amid the ongoing political crisis.
In a statement released by the Directorate of Public Relations and Information at Army Headquarters, the Army said that a number of commentaries, analyses, and claims about its role in the current situation have been circulating, many of them inaccurate.
“The Nepali Army has been regularly making its views and activities public through press releases, press notes, and official social media platforms,” the statement read. “We therefore appeal to the general public not to believe in misleading and false news.”
The Army further asked individuals and organizations seeking information to coordinate directly with the Directorate of Public Relations or with divisional headquarters across the country to ensure accurate communication.
The appeal comes as the military has taken a central role in enforcing curfews and maintaining order following violent Gen Z-led demonstrations earlier this week that left at least 34 dead and over a thousand injured.
