Schools closed due to extreme heat

GORKHA: All schools in Palungtar Municipality in Gorkha have been closed for two days due to extreme heat. Mayor Bibas Chintan announced that both community and institutional schools under the municipality will remain closed today and tomorrow, citing health concerns for children caused by the rising temperatures.

“The municipality has decided to close all schools for two days as the heat could pose health risks to students,” said Mayor Chintan. Regular classes are expected to resume from June 12.

Similarly, Aanbukhaireni Rural Municipality in neighboring Tanahun district has also declared a two-day summer break for all community and institutional schools due to the soaring temperatures.

According to the decision, the closure is aimed at protecting students from heat-related health issues. The rural municipality has issued a public notice urging school administrators, parents, and stakeholders to take necessary precautions during the heatwave.

“The decision to close schools has been made to minimize health risks due to extreme heat. Everyone is requested to take necessary precautions,” the notice issued by Rural Municipality Chairperson Shukra Chuman stated.

The municipality has advised students to stay indoors or in cool places, drink plenty of water, avoid exposure to direct sunlight during the day, consume fresh fruits and nutritious food, and engage in physical activities only during the early morning or evening hours.
