DHM issues weather alert for flash floods and landslides in Doti and Dadeldhura

KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has issued a weather alert following moderate to heavy rainfall in several parts of far-western Nepal over the past 1 to 3 hours.

Rainfall monitoring centers at Pashchim Seti and Dipayal in Doti, and Sahukharka in Dadeldhura, have recorded significant precipitation levels.

The Forecasting Division has urged residents to remain cautious until this afternoon, warning that sudden flooding could occur in small rivers and streams flowing through these areas. The department also noted a high risk of landslides, especially on steep and fragile terrain.

Additionally, possible flash floods have been forecast for rivers and streams in the Deurali Nawal area of Nawalparasi West, Shaktikhor in Chitwan, and Baldyangadhi in Palpa, prompting a call for vigilance in those regions as well.

The current weather conditions are being influenced by western and local winds, along with the monsoonal system active over Koshi Province, according to the department.

Authorities advise the public, particularly those in hilly and flood-prone areas, to stay alert and take necessary precautions as adverse weather conditions persist.
