Two arrested for foreign employment fraud in Kathmandu



KATHMANDU: Two individuals have been arrested on charges of cheating people under the guise of securing foreign employment.

The police apprehended the suspects on Monday, following complaints from victims who were promised lucrative salaries and employment opportunities in Malaysia and Croatia.

The arrested individuals are Lil Bahadur Rai, 54, from Udayapur’s Triyuga Municipality, currently residing in Lalitpur’s Mahalaxmi Municipality, and Bishal Shrestha, 37, from Basantapur in Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

According to the victims’ complaints, Rai allegedly took Rs 200,000 from two individuals with promises of sending them to Malaysia, while Shrestha took Rs 150,000 from another victim, claiming he would facilitate employment in Croatia, but both suspects later disappeared.

The Inspector General of Police Secretariat has confirmed that the suspects have been handed over to the Foreign Employment Department in Tahachal, Kathmandu, for further investigation and action.
