KATHMANDU: Nepal’s Ambassador to Thailand and Vietnam, Dhan Bahadur Oli, has called on Vietnamese investors to explore Nepal’s growing investment opportunities, stating that Nepal is ready to welcome increased economic engagement from Vietnam.
Speaking at an interaction in Hanoi today with the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), Ambassador Oli highlighted that Nepal and Vietnam have completed 50 years of diplomatic relations. He stressed the need for both countries to strengthen cooperation in trade and investment.
“In recent times, the global economy has been facing new challenges. In such a situation, it is important for both countries to enhance economic cooperation,” he said. “I encourage Vietnamese investors to invest in Nepal, especially in export-oriented industries.” He also noted strong potential for collaboration in tourism.
Ambassador Oli said Nepal and Vietnam can expand regional and international trade through economic partnerships, and pointed to investment potential in Nepal’s production-based industries, ICT, pharmaceuticals, and herbal products. Nepal, he added, is prepared to facilitate Vietnamese investors and ensure a supportive investment environment.
FNCCI President Chandra Prasad Dhakal also urged Vietnamese investors to take advantage of the vast opportunities in Nepal, stressing the importance of strengthening economic ties as the two nations mark five decades of diplomatic ties.
Dhakal noted that Nepali products such as handicrafts, tea, coffee, and herbs have strong market prospects in Vietnam, and said the two economies could serve as complementary partners. At the same time, he highlighted Nepal’s growing market for Vietnamese agricultural products, seafood, electronics, and other goods.
“Nepal is steadily improving its environment for foreign direct investment. The legal framework is investor-friendly, and reforms have been made in licensing, customs, and taxation. The government is committed to protecting foreign investment,” Dhakal said.
He added that regional investment in Nepal’s tourism sector, especially in cable cars, resorts, adventure tourism, and wellness centers, is increasing, and welcomed Vietnamese investors to capitalize on those opportunities.
