Nepali Congress tightens criteria for candidate recommendations for HoR and National Assembly polls

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress has enforced stricter criteria for recommending candidates for the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives (HoR) and the National Assembly.

According to a circular issued by Krishna Prasad Paudel, Chief Secretary of the party’s central office, all party committees have been instructed to recommend candidates strictly based on the prescribed standards and allocated numbers.

“The party draws serious attention to ensuring that candidate recommendations fully comply with the set criteria, the party’s circulars, and the provisions of the Nepali Congress Statute, 2017 (with amendments),” the circular states.

Earlier, the party had already circulated guidelines outlining the criteria for recommending candidates. The latest notice reiterates those directives and instructs committees to implement them without deviation. The Congress had previously issued circulars on Mangsir 15 and 17 regarding the same matter.
