KATHMANDU: A total of 7,344 cases of violence against women (VAW) were reported to the National Women’s Commission over the past six years. These complaints were received from across the country through the Commission’s toll-free helpline.
According to the Commission, 88 percent of the registered cases involved domestic violence. Commission Secretary Rekha Kandel stated that most of the women reporting violence were between the ages of 26 and 40.
Data from the Commission’s 1145 helpline further indicate that women with lower levels of literacy are more likely to experience violence.
This information was shared during an event held on Wednesday to mark the eighth anniversary of the “National Women’s Commission 1145 Free Helpline Service.”
In the last fiscal year alone, the Commission recorded 1,202 complaints related to domestic violence and the violation of women’s rights.
Commission Chairperson Kamala Kumari Parajuli reaffirmed her commitment to continue working actively in the field of women’s rights.
