17, including Sanjay Takla, arrested after escaping Nakkhu jail



KATHMANDU: Police and Army personnel have arrested 17 escapees from Lalitpur’s Nakkhu Jail, including notorious criminal and former state minister Sanjay Takla. They were captured Thursday in Mangalatar, Lalitpur.

Authorities also confirmed the arrest of four inmates who had escaped from the Central Jail in Sundhara, and three juveniles who fled from the Doti-based Dipayal Silgadhi Juvenile Reform Home.

In Dhading, 39 inmates who had escaped from Gajuri Prison were taken into custody, while 16 juveniles who fled the Jayandu Reform Home in Banke’s Daduwa were also arrested.

Meanwhile, the Nepal Army intervened at Nepalgunj District Prison in Banke after inmates attempted to riot and set fires. One prisoner was injured during the incident.

The Army and police have so far recovered 97 weapons from various locations. In Banepa-9, Kavrepalanchok, the Army disposed of eight socket bombs found in a residential area.

Local residents in Bhaisepati, Lalitpur, were also seen cleaning and welcoming back the police at a nearby station.
