Writers and analysts urge President Paudel to lead crisis resolution

KATHMANDU: Nepali writers and political analysts have called on President Ram Chandra Paudel to take initiative in steering the country out of its current political crisis and state of vacuum.

In a joint appeal issued on Thursday, 20 writers and analysts stressed the need for presidential leadership after CPN-UML chair KP Sharma Oli resigned as prime minister and no successor has yet been appointed.

“The country is facing a situation without a government and in a political void. Therefore, without delay, the Honorable President, as the guardian of the Constitution, must take initiative to resolve the crisis and provide leadership,” the appeal stated.

They urged the President to initiate dialogue not only with the Gen-Z protest movement but also with political parties, civil society, and the intellectual community, emphasizing that an interim government should be formed within the framework of the Constitution drafted by the Constituent Assembly.

“This dialogue and consultation should not take place at the Nepal Army headquarters but at the Office of the President,” they said, further requesting that the President address the nation and outline the process ahead.

The signatories argued that any political consensus reached under the current extraordinary circumstances should be endorsed by Parliament and followed by fresh elections to secure a new mandate.

They also underlined that political parties represented in Parliament must reform, restructure, and transform their leadership, which they said has repeatedly failed.

Reaffirming their commitment, the writers and analysts warned that Nepali citizens would not tolerate any conspiracy against the federal democratic republic and the Constitution born out of the people’s movements and the Constituent Assembly.
