Conspiracy to restore Monarchy, remove secularism unacceptable: Brihat Nagarik Andolan

KATHMANDU: The Brihat Nagarik Andolan has said that any attempt to restore the monarchy or remove secularism under the mediation of the Nepal Army will not be acceptable.

Issuing a statement on Thursday, the movement warned that recent political developments were raising concerns of a regressive agenda.

“The reality becoming clear now is that on the bodies of the martyrs of the Gen-Z movement, a conspiracy is being staged with the Army’s mediation and cooperation to restore monarchy and abolish secularism. This is completely unacceptable to us,” the statement read.

The group emphasized that the mandate and sacrifice of the Gen-Z protests were for strengthening republicanism and secularism, not for regression. It also criticized the Army’s “unconstitutional activism,” stressing that the youth had not taken to the streets to empower the military.

The statement further condemned those who infiltrated the Gen-Z protests and allegedly caused destruction to state and private property, warning that it was “frightening and unacceptable” that such actors were now negotiating under the Army’s hospitality.

Calling on the Army leadership to fulfill its constitutional responsibility, the movement demanded that all interaction with regressive forces be stopped immediately, and that future political discussions should only take place under the leadership and guardianship of the President.
