NC’s Pradeep Paudel seeks national consensus govt, calls for party leadership change

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress central committee member Pradeep Paudel has urged political forces to seek a constitutional solution and national reconciliation in response to the turmoil that has gripped the country following the Gen-Z youth movement against corruption.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Paudel said the recent protests and their aftermath had created a political vacuum, demanding urgent action. He called for the formation of a national consensus government, amendment of the constitution, and the resignation of the party leadership to pave the way for the party’s general convention within six months.

Expressing deep sorrow over the deaths of young demonstrators during the protests on Setember 8 and 9, Paudel offered condolences to the bereaved families and paid tribute to the victims. He condemned the excessive use of force against peaceful protesters, while also criticizing infiltrators who engaged in arson and vandalism under the guise of the movement.

Paudel also denounced attacks against senior leaders, including Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, and called for an impartial investigation into all incidents, with punishment for those found guilty.

Stressing the need to prevent the country from sliding into political and constitutional void, he welcomed the President’s recent initiative to launch dialogue among stakeholders. He acknowledged that the Gen-Z protesters’ demands against corruption and misgovernance were valid and should be addressed seriously.

“This crisis must be transformed into an opportunity for national renewal,” Paudel said, urging the Nepali Congress to immediately convene meetings to chart a way forward.
