Speaker Ghimire holds discussion on Civil Service Bill report

KATHMANDU: Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), Devraj Ghimire, held discussions on how the report prepared by the parliamentary investigation special committee on Civil Service Bill could be implemented.

Speaker Ghimire separately discussed with Chief Whip of ruling CPN (UML) Mahesh Kumar Bartaula, Chief Whip of coalition partner Nepali Congress Shyam Kumar Ghimire and Federal Parliament’s General-Secretary Padma Prasad Pandey, according to the Speaker’s Press Advisor, Shekhar Adhikari.

Ghimire mentioned that there were still several important bills under-consideration in the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee. Thus, he urged the political parties to forge a common viewpoint on the issue for the parliamentary committee to enforce the report and take forward its other businesses at the earliest.

During the meeting, he informed that Joint-Secretary Kanchan Dulal was entrusted with the responsibility of Secretary of the Committee to make the Committee more effective. The Speaker also made it clear that the Committee’s business cannot be stalled by any means.

In response, the Chief Whips and the General-Secretary of the Federal Parliament Secretariat univocally suggested that the Speaker made decisions regarding the report based on the recommendation furnished by the major political parties.

Earlier last Friday, the Speaker had discussed the same matter with joint-secretaries Laxmi Prasad Gautam and Ekram Giri from the parliament secretariat.

The Speaker is also planning to summon a joint meeting next day after garnering suggestions separately, it was shared.
