‘Tourism Information Center’ established in Thamel

KATHMANDU: A Tourism Information Center has been established in Thamel, the main tourist hub of the federal capital. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Bagmati Province set up the center in collaboration with Kathmandu Metropolitan City-26 and the Thamel Tourism Development Council.

The center was inaugurated today by Bagmati Province’s Minister for Culture and Tourism, Bimal Thakuri. Speaking at the event, Minister Thakuri expressed confidence that the information center would contribute to the development of tourism not only in Thamel but across Nepal.

He shared that this is the second such center established by Bagmati Province after the one in Chitwan, and added that tourists will now be able to learn about Nepal’s tourism activities from the Thamel center. He also announced plans to construct public toilets in the area.

Chairman of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-26, Khyamraj Tiwari, expressed optimism that the center would be a valuable resource, noting that 80 percent of foreign tourists visiting Nepal come through Thamel.

Dipendra Subedi, Secretary at the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Bagmati Province, informed that the provincial government plans to publish a travel book featuring the major tourist destinations across all districts of the province. He added that efforts are underway to integrate the tourism information center with modern technology.

Chief of the Kathmandu Tourism Office, Bhakta Bahadur Bhandari; Chairman of the Thamel Tourism Development Council, Dhurbha Adhikari; former chairman Dr. Ram Sharan Thapaliya; and Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) Chairman Sagar Pandey, among others, said the establishment of the center would help promote tourism and make it easier for visitors to access important information.

According to Pawan Kumar Pokharel, Head of the Tourism Division at the Bagmati Province Ministry of Tourism, the center will provide tourists with information on Nepal’s trekking routes, transportation, hotels, and local art and culture.

Vice President of the Thamel Tourism Development Council, Sahadev (Bimal) Dhamala, stated that the council is working to better organize Thamel, which he described as representing Nepal’s identity at the international level.

He expressed hope that the provincial government would continue to support efforts to make the Thamel area more vibrant in the coming days.
