Chinese Ambassador engages in development-focused programs in Jhapa

JHAPA: Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Chen Song, is on a two-day observation visit to Jhapa district, where he has been engaging in various social, educational, and industrial programs aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and exploring investment opportunities.

On Tuesday, Ambassador Chen toured several local industries in Arjundhara Municipality, including a rice processing plant in Muda (Arjundhara-10) and a temporary hut manufacturing unit in Arjundhara-2. His visit continues today with planned stops at a dairy farm in Arjundhara-6 and a fish farm in Arjundhara-10.

According to Keshav Dhungel, personal secretary to House Speaker Devraj Ghimire and coordinator of the ambassador’s visit, the Chinese delegation is conducting field visits to assess possible areas of Chinese investment in eastern Nepal.

“They are evaluating local industries and gathering information to understand the potential for future cooperation,” Dhungel said.

In addition to industrial visits, the Chinese ambassador has extended support in the education sector.

On Tuesday, he distributed 19 types of educational supplies to 1,900 students from two public schools — 1,500 students from Shanishchare Secondary School in Arjundhara and 400 students from Durga Secondary School in Birtamod.

Ambassador Chen also inaugurated a newly constructed two-story, four-room school building at Shukraj Basic School in Birtamod-8. The facility was built with Chinese Embassy support at a cost of Rs 5 million and was inaugurated in the presence of Birtamod Municipality Mayor Pabitra Prasai.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Chen emphasized the vital role of education in national development.

He said China’s progress is rooted in its strong focus on education and reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Nepal’s development. He recalled that following the 2015 earthquake, China had helped build 10 schools across Nepal.

Mayor Prasai, in her remarks, thanked the Chinese government for its continued support in areas such as education, agriculture, and infrastructure, noting the importance of such partnerships for Birtamod’s development.
