Shiv Sena President Anil Basnet arrested in connection with Tinkune violence



KATHMANDU: Shiv Sena President Anil Basnet, the leader of the royalist and Hindu-aligned organization, has been arrested by Kathmandu police for his alleged involvement in the violent protest that erupted in Tinkune on March 28.

According to SP Apilraj Bohara, spokesperson for the District Police Range, Kathmandu, Basnet was arrested from Sukedhara. Police had already obtained an arrest warrant against him prior to his detention.

SP Bohara further informed that several other suspects, for whom the police have court-issued arrest warrants, are still at large and remain on the wanted list.

The Tinkune clash resulted in the deaths of two individuals and caused significant damage to both government and private property, including arson and vandalism.

Police are preparing to charge Basnet and other suspects with offenses against the state, criminal mischief, and organized crime.

While 53 individuals are currently in custody, authorities have confirmed that those previously released on bail will also face formal charges.
