KATHMANDU: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has called on all sides not to misuse Hinduism—a religion he described as the greatest in the world—for political gain.
Speaking at a meeting of the Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee, Lekhak affirmed his personal faith in Hinduism, stating: “I am someone who personally believes in Hinduism. It is a religion founded on one of the world’s most profound philosophies. There is no ambiguity in that. But let us not exploit such a noble religion for divisive political purposes.”
Referring to recent violence during the royalist protest in Tinkune, he questioned,
“Was it virtuous to set fire to people’s property? Was it righteous to burn people alive in their homes? And all in the name of demanding a Hindu nation? Let us not misuse religion in such a way.”
He emphasized that the government stands firmly by the constitution and democratic system, and pledged that action will be taken against those found guilty of the Tinkune incident.
