Red Panda and Tahr Festival from Monday

KHOTANG: A two-day Red Panda and Tahr Festival-2025 is set to kick off this Monday in Khotang, marking the upcoming Mundum Trail Visit Year-2025 and aiming to raise awareness about endangered species and local tourism.

Organized by the Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality, the festival will be held at Hurlung along the Diktel-Halesi road section of the Mid-Hill Highway. The event seeks to promote the conservation of the endangered Red Panda and Himalayan Tahr, both native to the Himalayan region.

Mayor Tirtha Raj Bhattarai said the festival will not only focus on wildlife conservation but also highlight local culture, food, costumes, and ethnic traditions. The celebration will feature a food festival, exhibitions of local lifestyles and products, and photo and video displays related to the Red Panda and Tahr.

A key highlight of the event will be the formal inauguration of the ‘Mundum Trail Red Panda-Tahr Route’, with renowned actor Dayahang Rai, the goodwill ambassador for the Mundum Trail Visit Year-2025, expected to attend the ceremony.

The Mundum Trail Visit Year-2025 aims to attract around 100,000 domestic and international tourists, promoting eco-tourism and cultural exchange in the eastern hills of Nepal.
