PM calls for private sector proposal to revive sick industries

Prime Minister (PM) KP Oli has called on the private sector to submit a detailed proposal for the revival of sick industries through a partnership model.

Speaking at a meeting of the Commerce-Industry Promotion Dialogue Council at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers today, PM Oli urged the private sector to swiftly present a concrete proposal, emphasizing the government’s willingness to engage in partnerships.

Tensions escalate in parliament after Ramhari Khatiwada’s rant against Lamichhane

Tensions flared in the House of Representatives on Tuesday after ruling party MP Ramhari Khatiwada’s critical statements about former Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane, leading to protests from opposition lawmakers and confusion over parliamentary procedures.

The controversy began after Deputy Speaker Indira Rana Magar initiated special time following the conclusion of the zero hour, when Speaker Devraj Ghimire stepped out for a break.

Rana Magar, under the mistaken belief that special time had ended, allowed Khatiwada to take the floor despite it not being on the agenda.

Corruption in Nepal on the rise: Transparency International

Corruption in Nepal has been found to be increasing, according to the Corruption Perceptions Index 2024, released by Transparency International (TI). Nepal’s score has dropped by one point compared to last year.

In the 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index, Nepal scored 34 out of 100, down from 35 in the previous year.

Transparency International has emphasized that this decline highlights the urgent need for effective measures to combat corruption.

JSP Nepal withholds support for land ordinance

The Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal, led by Upendra Yadav, has decided not to support the land ordinance, a move that could significantly impact its passage in the National Assembly.

A JSP leader confirmed that the party’s parliamentary meeting on Tuesday resolved to withhold support for the ordinance, following a recommendation from a task force led by MP Rajkishore Yadav.

Despite opposing the land ordinance, JSP Nepal remains positive on five other ordinances issued by President Ram Chandra Paudel.

Gold price rises by Rs 600 per tola today

The price of gold increased by Rs 600 per tola today (Tuesday).

According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers, the price, which had risen on Sunday and Monday, continued to climb today.

Gold was traded priced at Rs 170,200 per tola, after a rise of Rs 600.

Two workers die from injuries in ‘Shandar Momo’ shop gas explosion

Two individuals who were injured in a gas cylinder explosion at the ‘Shandar Momo’ shop in Kamalpokhari last week have died.

Rabin Rai and Bhim Bahadur Ghale, who were hurt in the blast, passed away while being treated at Kirtipur Burn Hospital, as reported by the District Police Range, Kathmandu.

SP Apilraj Bohara confirmed that the two victims died on Monday from their injuries.
