KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress central member Nain Singh Mahar has expressed dissatisfaction over the government’s failure to implement the seven-point agreement reached with the CPN-UML prior to its formation.

Speaking during a discussion program with Nepali Congress liaison committee chairpersons on Saturday, Mahar criticized Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli for his perceived lack of seriousness and responsibility in fulfilling the commitments outlined in the agreement.

He emphasized the need for a thorough review of the situation during a central working committee meeting of the party.

“When the Prime Minister announced the seven-point agreement in parliament, it generated hope among the disillusioned public. The collaboration of the two major parties raised expectations for constitutional amendments. However, six months into the government’s tenure, there has been no progress on any of the agreed points. This has once again led to public disappointment,” said Mahar.

He also condemned statements made by government leaders that appear to contradict the agreement, arguing that such remarks undermine public trust and create doubts about the coalition’s commitment.

“No leader of the coalition has the right to make unilateral statements that disregard the agreement and disappoint the people,” said Mahar.

Highlighting the urgency of legislative action, Mahar urged the government to convene the winter session of the House of Representatives without further delay.

He stressed that the government should prioritize enacting pending laws and addressing issues related to public service delivery, rather than wasting time on less pressing matters.

“The Parliament should focus on building public trust by passing necessary laws. The delay in convening the winter session is unjustifiable, especially when opposition parties are protesting against it,” Mahar added, calling on the ruling parties to act responsibly for the benefit of the people.
