Central Labour Advisory Council recommends for ratification of ILO instruments



KATHMANDU: The Central Labour Advisory Council has recommended to the government for the ratification of International Labour Organization (ILO)’s various instruments.

A meeting of the Council on Friday recommended for moving ahead the process for the ratification of the Labour Inspection Convention, 1947 (No. 81), the Freedom of Association and Protection of the Right to Organize Convention, 1948 (No. 87) and the Forced Labour Convention, 1930 (No, 29) and its Protocol 29 of 2014.

The Central Labour Advisory Council has been constituted in line with Clause 102 of the Labour Act, 2074. The main role of the Council is to advise the Government of Nepal on labour related issues. The Council made this recommendation to the Ministry of Labour and Social Security.

Council Chairperson and Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Sarat Singh Bhandari presided over the meeting.

The meeting also reviewed the status of implementation of Council’s previous decisions.

The Minister’s Secretariat has stated that the meeting made decisions related to improving the labour administration, social security and occupational safety sectors as well as on further systematizing the works of the Minimum Wage Fixation Committee, pursuing works on its revision and expanding the scope of social security, among other topics.

It has recommended to the Ministry for making timely revision to the labour laws as well.

The Council has also suggested on making the Labour and Employment Conference successful. The Conference is being held in Kathmandu on February 28 and March 1, 2025.
