Gokarna Bista calls for leadership transition and transformation in UML

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Secretary Gokarna Bista has said the party now requires both leadership transition and structural transformation to address the present political situation.

Speaking at an interaction program organized in Kathmandu on Wednesday in the context of the upcoming UML General Convention, Bista said the country as well as the party is facing a deepening crisis, making collective leadership essential through timely transition and reform.

He confirmed that his team will contest from the group led by Ishwar Pokhrel. “The party needs a leadership that can rise above the status quo and face new challenges,” Bista stated.

Highlighting the need to end the practice of sidelining leaders who lagged behind during previous democratic exercises, Bista stressed including all factions and taking the party forward unitedly after the General Convention.

He further said the new leadership should be chosen under the guidance of People’s Multiparty Democracy (PMD), ensuring unity and consensus within the party.

The UML General Convention is scheduled to take place in Kathmandu from December 13 to 15.
