Police arrest 10 vandals, arsonists linked to Gen Z protest in Jhapa



DAMAK: Police have arrested 10 individuals allegedly involved in vandalism and arson during the Gen Z protests on September 8-9, targeting the Area Police Office, Damak.

Two youths from Chulachuli, Ilam, Nakul Adhikari (22) of Chulachuli-3 and Riyaz Silwal (19) of Chulachuli-5, were taken into custody Sunday night for investigation, according to the Area Police Office, Damak. Their arrest brings the total of those apprehended for attacking the office to four, the District Police Office, Jhapa said.

Earlier, Sajan Luhagun (21) of Miklajung-5, Panchthar, currently residing in Damak-5, was arrested on similar charges. So far, four individuals from Damak and six from Birtamod have been held, with investigations ongoing.

Police noted that videos and photos from the protests were crucial in identifying the perpetrators. Complaints have been filed against more than 50 people accused of torching and vandalizing both public and private property during the violent demonstrations.
