President Paudel calls all-party meeting to discuss upcoming elections

KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel has invited all political parties for a discussion at the President’s Office, Sheetal Niwas, at 4 p.m. on Friday.

According to a minister familiar with the development, the meeting was called following Thursday’s consultations between President Paudel, Prime Minister Sushila Karki, and several cabinet members. The discussion will primarily focus on preparations for the upcoming national elections announced for March 5.

Officials said the meeting aims to build a political consensus and create a conducive environment for the polls. “The President has called this meeting at the request of Prime Minister Karki, who emphasized the need for cooperation among all parties to ensure a fair and peaceful election,” the minister said.

Nepal is currently being governed by an independent-led administration under Prime Minister Karki, formed in the aftermath of the Gen-Z movement of September 8 and 9. The movement led to widespread unrest and the eventual dissolution of the previous House of Representatives.

President Paudel has since initiated consultations with all parties that were represented in the dissolved parliament, in an effort to maintain political stability and ensure an orderly democratic transition.

The all-party meeting is expected to discuss election management, security arrangements, and the participation of various political forces in the upcoming vote.
