Israel approves Gaza ceasefire and hostage deal

TEL AVIV: Israel has agreed to a ceasefire and hostage release deal concerning Gaza, according to a statement from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office.

Netanyahu described the agreement as a “momentous development” and expressed gratitude to former U.S. President Donald Trump, U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff, and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, both of whom were present at the Israeli cabinet meeting, BBC reported.

Trump commented that Israeli hostages could potentially be freed as early as “Monday or Tuesday.” Under the first phase of the deal, Israel would release hundreds of Palestinian prisoners, begin pulling troops out from parts of Gaza, and allow hundreds of aid trucks into the territory daily.
