Not listening to Gen-Z’s voice was a mistake: PM Karki

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) Sushila Karki has acknowledged that past governments failed to heed the voices and concerns of the Gen-Z, calling it a significant oversight that must be humbly accepted.

In a video message to mark one month since the start of the Gen-Z movement, Prime Minister Karki expressed her government’s full commitment to the changes demanded by Nepal’s youth. She emphasized the need for national unity, restraint, and constructive engagement.

“We must all accept the revolution led by the young generation,” said Prime Minister Karki. “On one hand, our youth are deeply disappointed. On the other, they hold a powerful love for this country. I respect their emotions. Previous governments failed to listen to their voices and address their demands. For that, we must acknowledge our mistakes and weaknesses.”

She also announced that the government will establish a new mechanism to ensure meaningful participation of the Gen-Z in shaping Nepal’s future.

“We are setting up a new structure to involve Gen-Z in building the new Nepal,” she said. “On this solemn occasion, I appeal to everyone to exercise restraint and break the cycle of violence. What we need now is mutual goodwill and national unity to transform this tragic chapter into the foundation of a better tomorrow.”

Prime Minister Karki reiterated that her administration is fully aware of the aspirations of the youth and is moving forward in that direction.

“We are committed to the changes the younger generation seeks,” she said. “This movement must continue, even beyond the upcoming elections, and we will walk together on this new path.”
