21 inmates return after Kanchanpur prison break



KANCHANPUR: Twenty-one inmates have returned following a mass escape from Kanchanpur prison on Tuesday night.

Acting prison administrator Ramdatt Joshi said the facility held 479 prisoners, including 453 men and 26 women. On Tuesday, around 300–400 armed individuals entered the prison and broke the main gate to help inmates escape.

Joshi added that several other escapees are in contact with authorities and have promised to return, but curfew restrictions have delayed their return. Police have been deployed to locate the remaining fugitives.

The Kanchanpur District Administration issued a public notice urging escaped prisoners to surrender immediately to the prison or nearest security agency, warning that those who fail to do so will face strict legal action.
