Security Forces deployed after 62 inmates escape From Baitadi prison

BAITADI: Security forces have been mobilized to track down 62 inmates who escaped from Baitadi prison after setting fires and breaking through the gates on Tuesday night.

Chief District Officer Punyabikram Paudel said some of the escapees are already in contact with authorities. Despite hours of effort, security personnel failed to contain the rioting inmates, who broke out around 8:30 p.m.

The prison building was destroyed in the blaze, raising concerns over where to house recaptured prisoners. Authorities also fear a rise in criminal incidents following the jailbreak.
