Top Bahadur Rayamajhi escapes from Central Jail

KATHMANDU: Suspended CPN-UML secretary Top Bahadur Rayamajhi has escaped from Central Jail, Jaisidewal. He was in custody for trial in the fake Bhutanese refugee scam.

Rayamajhi and his group were accused of collecting millions of rupees by promising to send Nepali citizens abroad as fake Bhutanese refugees.

On Tuesday, a mob attacked the Central Jail during the violent Gen-Z protest. Taking advantage of the chaos, Rayamajhi fled along with around 3,300 prisoners.

According to prison authorities, only about 500 inmates now remain inside out of the 3,800 total. Nearly 50 escapees have already returned, but Rayamajhi is still at large.
